LO has amended the guidelines for LO’s scholarships.

LO has amended the guidelines for LO’s scholarships and lowered the requirement for membership in LO from 3 to 1 years for applicants who apply for scholarships under section 3-5 of the Education Act (trade and journeyman’s examinations without apprenticeship and schooling), or for a general education leading to a university and college admissions certification.

The cause of this waiver is the increase in lay offs because of the financial crisis. Many workers have been unable to take advantage of the scholarship system because of the 3 year membership requirement.

The amendment entered into force on July 1 2009 and is valid for two years.
